From Humble Beginnings to South African Window Covering Leaders
Since its founding in 1969, Windovert has grown from a modest window-covering business into one of South Africa’s most recognised providers of blinds, shutters, security products, and bespoke sun-control solutions. Established at a time when personalised window dressings were just emerging in local homes, the company quickly built a reputation for quality, innovation and exceptional service. Today, Windovert’s network spans more than 28 franchises across South Africa, and into Namibia, Eswatini and Zimbabwe, demonstrating that its products remain as relevant in modern living spaces as they were decades ago.
A Visionary Founder: Jean Hubert
At the heart of Windovert’s success is Jean Hubert, the founder, whose hands-on leadership continues to shape the company culture more than half a century after he founded the business. Born in Cameroon and raised in Johannesburg, Jean brought a unique blend of technical rigour and future-focused thinking to the industry. After completing a BSc in Civil Engineering at Wits and a Master’s in Philosophy from Stellenbosch University, he adopted a forward-thinking approach that would come to define Windovert’s evolution.
Jean’s philosophy centres on innovation and adaptability, believing that success comes from thinking ahead and not being afraid to take risks. Under his leadership, Windovert expanded its product range and embraced technology and consumer trends long before many competitors, helping solidify its position as a market leader. Jean also takes pride in the company’s people-first ethos: providing employment, empowering franchisees and nurturing a team that’s as passionate about customer service as he is.
Modern Leadership: Fenella Rivalland
Today, the leadership team also includes Co-Owner Fenella Rivalland, a dynamic entrepreneur whose broad business experience enhances Windovert’s strategic direction. Based in Durban, Fenella brings expertise in business growth, client engagement and communication to her role. Before joining Windovert in 2023, she held leadership positions in both advertising and business development, and has run her own very successful adverting agency, Loud Crowd Media, since 2011. This combination of brand strategy experience and operational insight helps Windovert stay agile in a competitive market.
Looking Ahead
As Windovert celebrates over 55 years in business, its success story remains grounded in innovation, quality and people-centred leadership. From Jean’s early installations to the brand’s expanding footprint across Southern Africa, every chapter underscores a commitment to delivering not just products but solutions that enhance spaces and everyday living experiences. With seasoned leaders like Jean and Fenella guiding its future, Windovert is set to remain a trusted name in window coverings for many years to come.
